On the I-5 in Fresno, California there was a semi truck sitting idly on the shoulder of the road when it was struck by a Chrysler minivan. Authorities are still investigating why the semi was there after it took the lives of four Washington natives.
When the minivan struck the idle truck the entire passenger side would be torn off and 4 of the passengers would be ejected out of the window.
Of the four deceased victims there were two adults and two children, and of the three injured there were two adults and one child. The three surviving victims of the accident all suffered major injuries.
The southbound I-5 would be temporarily closed for roughly six hours while first responders were working the accident.
In 2019 the U.S Department of Transportation reported 12,239 fatalities in passenger cars on the highway. This number is slowly decreasing from year to year and it’s a reminder to drive safely while on the road.
