In Chatham Township, Yulia Rayona was driving a Nissan Rogue and hit Michael Pacchia Jr., driving a Jeep Wrangler, at Lafayette Avenue and Shunpike Road intersection.
Investigations opened after officers found a half-empty bottle of liquor in Rayonas car.
Authorities said she had been traveling 20 miles per hour over the speed limit and drove through a red light, hitting Pacchia’s car leading him to die at the scene.
Witnesses said Rayonas car was weaving in and out of cars and driving on the curb prior to the crash. Rayona has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide.
Rayona appeared in court and is scheduled to have a detention hearing in the following days.
