Car accident involving food truck leaves 11 injured in Austin, Texas

An accident is still being investigated after a car drove into a food truck surrounded by people in Austin, Texas. The crash resulted in 9 people being rushed to the hospital.

The Holla Mode ice cream truck was conducting business on Barton Springs Road near Chuy’s Restaurant before a car drove into the crowd.

Employees at The Picnic food truck park across the street stated that they heard a car driving at a fast speed until it drove into a group of people. Authorities responded to the incident that sent 9 people to the hospital, 2 others refusing treatment.

This area of Barton Springs attracts a lot of pedestrians and foot traffic. There are many food truck businesses that are now fearful of being put in the same situation.

Waneryiai Carpio, an employee at The Picnic stated , “We were scared. It was very close. And we have too many people right there.” He explained that he wants authorities to look into some preventative measures that could stop this from happening in the future.

It was reported that several of the injured individuals were Sorensen employees. They were in Austin for the DeafNation Expo event, which was less than a mile from the scene of the accident.

There were not many details released by APD about the accident. Witnesses have stated that they are checking on their friends who work at Holla Mode, but they are not wanting to share details as of now.
