On Thursday night, at the Lakewood Transit Station in Atlanta, a person was standing near the tracks and was hit and killed by the train.
The incident took place around 9:30 p.m and was pronounced dead by the Fulton County Medical Examiner. The victim of the incident has not yet been identified.
The investigation resulted in delays on the north and south lines for several hours and riders were forced off of trains and onto buses at the East and West point.
The police have stated that they don’t know why the person was standing so close to the tracks and what led to him getting hit. This is the second death that has taken place on these same tracks this month.
Marta tweeted on April 14th at 10:08 p.m that trains will not continue north or southbound to Lakewood station but the bus bridge will remain from east to west.
