A mother was killed, and her daughter is in critical condition after a man wrecked into them at 115 mph in Phoenix, Arizona.
Authorities responded to an accident located at 32nd and Southern Avenue around 8 p.m. The accident involved a Camaro and Hyundai.
18-year-old Eulalio Juarez Rodriguez was traveling in his Camaro at 115 mph before slowing down to 88 mph and then wrecking into the Hyundai. The posted speed limit for the area is 45 mph. Investigators stated that Rodriguez was attempting to make a left turn onto 32nd Avenue. The impact caused the Hyundai to crash into a power pole.
Authorities identified the driver as Katrina Dean, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 4-year-old daughter, Aubrielle, was sitting in the back of the vehicle in a child seat when the accident took place. She was rushed to the hospital in very critical condition.
Liz Pena, Katrina’s best friend, stated that “Aubrielle has a lot of brain trauma, but she is a fighter.” According to Pena, Katrina and Aubrielle were two blocks away from their home when the crash occurred.
Rodriguez was booked into jail on recommended charges of manslaughter due to the high speed he was driving at when he hit Dean and her daughter. Police stated that impairment is most likely not a factor in the crash.
