Authorities responded to a four-vehicle accident early this morning involving a commercial truck, two pick-up trucks, and an SUV. There are two parts to this collision, and both caused a fatality.
The first accident to occur would be between a 32-year-old woman driving an SUV, and a pick up truck with two passengers. The SUV was headed north, and the truck was headed south when the SUV crossed the double yellow line and collided with the truck.
The woman in the SUV died due to the impact and the truck would catch on fire because of the collision. Both passengers in the truck suffered severe injuries due to the fire and impact and would be rushed to the nearest hospital. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Florida Highway Patrol are still investigating what caused the woman to cross into head on traffic.
After the initial wreck, a commercial truck would then hit the woman’s SUV and would then hit another vehicle that stopped to help the initial accident. The commercial truck driver would also side swipe another truck that was passing by but the driver did not suffer any injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that stopped to offer help was killed when the commercial truck collided with him. He was a 53-year-old man, and he would be taken to a hospital where he would unfortunately pass away.
