Authorities responded to a tragic accident over the weekend in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Three University of Oklahoma students were storm chasing the tornadoes in Kansas over the weekend, but one their way back the group of students would hydroplane until they were struck by a tractor-trailer.
After the students hydroplaned in their vehicle they were on the shoulder of the road when a tractor-trailer came to a broadside collision with the idle vehicle. The students would be stuck under the tractor-trailer for nearly an hour and a half until the Tonkawa first responders would be able to free their remains. All three students would be pronounced dead at the scene.
The three students were Gavin Short, 19, Nicholas Nair, 20, and Drake Brooks, 22. The three men were meteorology students at the University of Oklahoma, and they were chasing the tornadoes and documenting the damage they left in their path.
The University of Oklahoma has released statements about the event saying the campus is “devastated” by the loss of these amazing students. Other members of the meteorology club would give their condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident including the whole of the University of Oklahoma.
Should You Seek Legal Action After an Accident Leaves You Injured?
When looking at the different opportunities of receiving compensation for an accident, legal action is often looked at as a daunting choice. This is caused by the perceived time it might take or the amount of time in court. However, most personal injury cases don’t even end up in front of a jury. Many personal injury cases are settled before a trial can take place.
The benefit of filing a lawsuit to seek compensation is you will likely receive more than you would from a normal insurance company check. Oftentimes insurance companies are trying to pay you the least amount necessary and for someone that was hurt in an accident they simply deserve more than that. The Accident Injury Legal Center helps provide those who are looking with the legal representation that best fits their needs.
