A 2012 Corvette collided with a brick barrier and fence right outside St. Simeon Serbian Orthodox Church. Authorities responded to the crash when they were notified of a single-vehicle wreck around 5:16 a.m. The wreck caused power outages to several businesses nearby.
The passenger was identified as a 34-year-old Las Vegas woman after she was found dead at the scene. The driver was taken to University Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. He was a 34-year-old Las Vegas man.
Police stated that the driver was driving at around 100 mph before he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the median, taking out a power pole.
The street was closed until late Tuesday afternoon and the power outage was challenging for nearby businesses. Power was restored late Tuesday afternoon as well.
Authorities explained that the church where the accident occurred, is the same church that held the funeral of Tina Tintor, the 23-year-old that was killed in an accident involving Henry Ruggs, the former Las Vegas Raiders football player. This crash also involved a Corvette that was traveling at a high rate of speed.
