The Tallahassee Police Department issued a statement this morning providing further details on the fatal car accident that killed a police officer.
27-year-old Tyrone Cleveland entered his home and shot three family members before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Officers received a call about an assault around 12:30 a.m.
The Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Tallahassee PD both encountered the suspect’s vehicle at North Monroe Street and Capital Circle NW. Cleveland then turned his vehicle into oncoming traffic before crashing into the TPD officer’s vehicle head-on.
The TPD officer was rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The three individuals that were shot were also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and in stable condition.
Cleveland also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is facing several charges. An update was released stating the suspect is facing three charges of homicide-willful kill murder premeditated, one charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and two counts of possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted Florida felon.
The city of Tallahassee commission meeting met Wednesday and spent their time mourning the death of the officer that was killed.
The officer’s name will not be released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
