The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday.
A 24-year-old man from Orlando was driving a Dodge Durango south on County Road 561 before he failed to make a right-hand curve. This caused the vehicle to run off the road and into the shoulder, crashing into a tree.
The patrol reported that there were four passengers in the vehicle. The driver was identified as a 24-year-old male from Orlando. He was accompanied by a 48-year-old male, 23-year-old female, and a 5-year-old girl. They were all pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers stated that none of the adult passengers were wearing seatbelts and the child was not properly restrained in a car seat.
Lt. Tara Crescenzi explained that wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of injury by 50% and that it is important for everyone to buckle up.
The fatal accident shut down the roadway for hours. County Road 561 was closed in both directions from Florida Boys Ranch Road to Lake Nellie Road.
The crash is still under investigation.
