Todd Therrien, former coach at St. Bonaventure High football coach, is left in a quadriplegic state after a tragic car accident that occurred on May 23. He suffered a broken neck and severe spinal cord injuries.
The accident took place when Therrien was traveling home from work before he was struck by a vehicle driven by an alleged drunk driver who ran a red light. He was blindsided by the vehicle that was traveling around 40-50 mph. The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m.
He is currently in the ICU at Community Memorial Hospital in Fresno and remains on a ventilator. His father stated that he is paralyzed from the chest and elbows down. The impact of the collision was so traumatic that it caused an almost complete transection of his spinal cord at the C4-C5 level according to his medical reports.
The family is looking to transfer him to a trauma center in Los Angeles County or Ventura County where he can begin rehabilitation to slowly get him off a ventilator.
Therrien recently started a new job in Clovis and has three children ages 16, 12, and 2.
He was a 1997 graduate of St. Bonaventure who played football for coach Jon Mack. He succeeded Mack as head coach in 2007 and took the team to two-straight championship games.
His younger brother, Corey, has started a GoFundMe and is posting updates of Todd’s condition.
