Two women in critical condition after head-on collision in Florida

Two drivers are seriously injured after hitting each other head-on in Manatee County on Wednesday. The accident occurred south of 52nd Street West near Palmetto.

Troopers identified the victims as a 32-year-old Bradenton woman and 35-year-old St. Petersburg woman. They were both driving SUVs, one going northbound and the other traveling southbound on U.S. 19.

The Bradenton woman drove off the highway, across the median, and into the southbound lanes of U.S. 19. Her SUV then slammed head-on into the vehicle of the St. Petersburg woman.

The Bradenton woman’s car ended up in a ditch due to impact and the St. Petersburg woman’s vehicle rotated and came to a stop on a highway.

Both of the victims were transported to nearby hospitals with severe injuries. Both women were wearing seatbelts.

Authorities do not know why the woman drove off the road. The investigation is ongoing.
