Authorities respond to crash involving 9 vehicles in Tennessee

The Knoxville Police Department responded to an accident involving a dump truck, three passenger vehicles, and five motorcycles on Monday. Multiple victims were taken to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.

After an investigation was conducted, it was found that the dump truck attempted to slow down for stopped traffic, but he was not able to stop without hitting other vehicles. The crash occurred around 3:20 p.m. along John Sevier Highway near Mountain Grove Drive.

The KPD spokesman stated that the motorcyclists were transferred to the University of Tennessee Medical Center to treat their injuries. One woman’s injuries were considered life-threatening and she remains hospitalized.

The driver of one of the passenger vehicles was also taken to the hospital for their injuries.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the dump truck that caused the accident.

The roadway remained closed for four hours.
