A street race took place around 10:21 p.m. in Jurupa Valley, California. Investigators found that a 2001 and 2019 Lexus were street racing from Fontana.
Witnesses told authorities that the 2001 car lost control while trying to turn the vehicle. The vehicle was traveling at a high speed before crossing into oncoming traffic and slamming into a Chevy Silverado head-on.
Both of the vehicles went up in flames, killing the driver of the 2001 Lexus. Riverside County firefighters extinguished the fires and freed the drivers from the wreckage. The driver of the Silverado was taken to a nearby hospital with burns and other injuries.
The other driver participating in the street race remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigators. The suspect was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter.
His name has not been released.
