Three people are being transported to hospital by helicopter, authorities have responded to a explosion in Baytown, Texas.
Baytown is located just east of Houston. The refinery is the company’s largest refinery in the US which produces around 584,000 barrels of crude oil per day according to the company’s website.
The refinery has left several people injured early Thursday morning. A blaze broke out at 1am central standard time, local residents said it sounded like an explosion.
Harris County Sheriffs Office said that deputies are responding to the accident and injuries have been reported.
Ed Gonzalez said at least four people have been injured, with three taken to hospital by air ambulance. The fourth person is also being transported to the hospital.
Harris County Sheriffs department has asked for resident to avoid this area and there are no indications that the residents need to be evacuated or find shelter.
Rohan Davis, Refinery Manager said that all four people in the hospital appear to be in stable condition and all other employees have been accounted for. He also stated he cannot confirm if a explosion took place.
“At this time, we’re still collecting all that information,” Davis said. “We will conduct a full and thorough investigation. “
