Former Washington football player pleads guilty in deadly crash

An ex-Washington Commanders player has plea bargained to a more lenient charge after being accused of causing an accident that killed the passenger in his vehicle.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. on December 23rd in Aldie, Virginia. Police stated that the player, Deshazor Dantee Everett, was driving more than double the speed limit when he crashed his 2010 Nissan. The vehicle came to rest on its side off the roadway.

The accident killed his passenger, 29-year-old Olivia Suzanne Peters. The spokeswoman for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office did not say whether Everett or Peters were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.

It was determined that Everett’s behavior caused the accident because he was traveling at a dangerous speed. It is believed that his action showed a reckless disregard for Peters’ life.

Everett was charged with involuntary manslaughter after the crash but pleaded guilty to reckless driving. Involuntary manslaughter is a felony and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Reckless driving is a misdemeanor with a one-year maximum.

Cristina Brady, a commonwealth attorney, stated the parents of Peters support the agreement and they feel that it is what their daughter would want.

Everett’s attorney asked the judge, Deborah C. Welsh, to postpone the sentencing until the NFL season is over, so it would be easier for his teammates and coaches to testify. Welsh denied the request.
