An accident that occurred during an air show in Michigan killed the driver of a jet-powered semi-truck, known as Chris Darnell. The truck was performing at the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival in Michigan. He lived in southwest Missouri and graduated from Missouri Southern State University.
The accident occurred on July 2nd as the semi-truck was speeding down the runway of the Battle Creek Executive Airport. The truck was racing two airplanes that were flying just above the vehicle.
There was a video released that showed that Darnell released a parachute to slow the truck down before it started tumbling and spinning out. The truck, known as the Shockwave, was seen racing through or by an explosion. The jet truck bursts into flames, causing a black cloud of smoke to form.
In the video, you can see a large orange fireball and Shockwave disappearing behind it before coming out spinning on the other side. The Michigan police are currently investigating the incident and want to clear up the root cause of the explosion.
Chris Darnell’s father published a post relaying the news and told viewers that his son was “living the dream.”
The Darnells bought the Shockwave from Les Shockley and have been performing in it since 2013. They had been driving jet-powered vehicles before that, but they decided to make Shockwave the center of their show.
