Authorities responded to an accident involving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra that had four teenagers inside. Police released the name of the 18-year-old driver, Xander Babcock and he was from Fruitland Park.
The reports say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed while in a construction zone and the road conditions were not favorable at the time. The driver would lose control and hit a curb offroad. Babcock would then hit multiple road barricades before flipping in a ditch.
A 17-year-old and Babcock would be thrown out of the car and would be pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, a 15-year-old, would also be thrown out of the car and suffered critical injuries. The last passenger, a 16-year-old, would only suffer minor injuries.
Authorities released that only the 16-year-old was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
