Wisconsin lawmaker involved in fatal car accident

On Friday, authorities responded to a fatal car accident involving Wisconsin Senate Democratic Minority Leader, Janet Bewley. The accident killed a young mother and her 5-year-old daughter from Pennsylvania.

Janet Bewley was pulling out of a Lake Superior beach entrance before she ended up in the way of another vehicle. The vehicle was being driven by 27-year-old Alyssa Ortman. After the two vehicles collided, Ortman’s vehicle spun across Highway 2 and was struck by another car.

5-year-old Khaleesi was pronounced deceased at the scene. Ortman was transported to a nearby hospital where she later passed away.

Bewley did not suffer any injuries and was not taken to the hospital after the accident. Authorities later identified that Bewley underwent cataract surgery a day before the accident occurred.

The Ashland Police Chief stated that they will be sitting down with the people involved to go over what happened at the scene. As of today, no charges have been filed.
